Wednesday
I spent majority of my time on my research paper in class and it is coming along pretty well. I got most of my reading time this week from reading Michael Vey 6: Fall of Hades and fishing The Red Queen.
Why is the post titled Wednesday if I'm talking about my reading time? Because I'm not actually going to. All my life I've been told that I have very high pain tolerance. Honestly, I didn't really believe them. Yes I have had a few concussions, broken bones, scrapes, and bruises but nothing that hurt too bad, until Wednesday.
I was at basketball practice and I guess my foot slipped or I step on one of my teammate's feet and my foot went the wrong way. I am not really sure but I went home and the next day my foot was swollen and it sort of hurt to walk. But I ignored it because we had a JV game that day that I had to play in. So guess what I did, I played. I limped around most of the game but I played the whole game and when I woke up the next morning I could not walk at all. My mom actually had to carry me to the couch. So, that day I hobbled around like a penguin everywhere as some of you probably saw, and I did not practice that Friday night. After practice I went to the Orthopedic Clinic on Bluebonnet and found out that I strained two things and possibly fractured my foot again. Which means, I am in a boot. I am not sure how long I will be in the boot but I am getting an MRI on Tuesday to find out. Hopefully it's just the two strains and not a fracture. High pain tolerance can be a good thing and a bad thing, in this case it was bad. I did not listen to the pain I was feeling and possibly hurt my foot really bad. So my advice to you all is to listen to your body.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
The weekend Dr.D gave us this book by Sherman Alexie I went home and saw that we had to read 53 pages. I was not bothered by this because I am a fast reader, so I sat down on my couch and started reading. I finished the reading in fifteen minutes.
I enjoyed the cartoons that Junior drew and the language he used to describe his life and his differences compared to white people and the other Indians living around him. Alexie uses descriptive words to help the reader visualize what Junior's everyday life is like and gives the readers good background information. The mood in the beginning of the book fit with Junior's character, fun, creative, and hopeful. Once Junior started to be doubtful and upset, I started to doubt and be upset which shows that readers get involved in the story easily. I am enjoying this book so far and I am excited to see what the book holds in the future.

Research Topic
My research topic is about the Jews during the Holocaust and how what they went through affected them. I am interested in this topic because I went to the Holocaust Museum last year and what I saw was extremely sad and was worth me knowing more. It should be interesting to you all because everyone knows the general idea of what happened during the Holocaust but not a lot of people know EXACTLY what happened.
The Jews were hated before World War II even began. This idea is called anti-semitism. Hitler thought of Jews as Satan's people and that they were not human beings and had no right to live. So, once Jews were brought into concentration camps like Auschwitz, Dachu, and Belzec, they were beaten, tortured, mass murdered, gassed, used as medical experiments and more. One experiment that really horrified me was when a Nazi doctor was studying how the human body responds to extremely cold temperatures. Jews were thrown into water that was freezing cold with no clothes and stayed there until they passed out. The doctors would then take the bodies out and take blood samples and study them. The Jews that survived medical experiments were then thrown into the gas chambers and killed so information about those medical experiments were not leaked into the world. That was just one specific about what the Jews in concentration camps went through. There are so much more and if your interested go find out.

Time Management
I always had pretty great time management in middle school, but that was because I knew exactly how much time it took me to do everything and I knew how each teacher's system worked and how the school functioned. Ironically, understanding all of those things takes time, it is not a fast process and will not just take a few days to get it under control. I have learned how this school functions, how long it takes me personally to complete my assignments, and what my teacher wants. My time management is now back under control and I am less stressed.
I plan to keep the system I have come up with and try not to change it too much. Using tutorials and study halls wisely is the key to me being successful in school because of sports. Also, being less stressed allows me to enjoy myself and my friends more. I am not worried about how I will get my geometry homework done or time to study for my biology test because I have a plan. I can go through a class and give the teacher my full attention without worrying about anything else. I cannot say no that time management is under control I can let up on my hard work, what I'm saying is I can learn and spend time with my friends less stressed and more relaxed.

Winter Break
Winter break was pretty full of activities, so I had little down time. I had basketball practice almost everyday and three games on December 27th, 28th, and 29th. We only got December 23rd, 24th, and 25th off over the break. I am not complaining though, I enjoy playing basketball so it was not a problem for me. If I wasn't playing basketball here I was playing with my brother outside or beating him in cards. Also, I spent time with my family. My cousins came on the 23rd and left on the 24th but for that one day we had so much fun.
We decorated Christmas cookies, had a marshmallow fight, watch Christmas movies, worked puzzles, played cards and basketball, and flew my brother's drone outside. My three cousins, my brother, and I are used to being together for very short amounts of time so we do not take one second for granted. It was also great to see my aunt and uncle for the first time in forever.
Christmas day was interesting because it was only my brother, my parents, and me, which is odd for my family because we are used to our 16 person Christmas. That wasn't able to happen because of our crazy schedules. Winter break was very enjoyable and as always I wish it had been longer.

Research Update
My research is going pretty well right now. I might need a few more sources for one topic for the answer to my question, but I have found all of my other sources easily. The easiest parts of the project so far has been finding and pulling information form the sources. Either I am very interested in the topic of the Holocaust, or reading comprehension is something I excel at, or both. I am enjoying the learning part of this project, but I am not looking forward to writing my paper.
The struggles I am running into or have come across in the past couple weeks have been random. The first problem I had was finding primary sources. I eventually found some after around 20 minutes of digging, I figured out that my search terms were not corresponding to what I wanted to find. The second problem I had was coming up with a question. I thought about it for a long time and eventually I asked Ms. Howell for help and we went through and found a common thread throughout my sources. I used the common thread of inhumane treatment and psychology to come up with the question of: What were the inhumane events the Jews went through in the Holocaust and how did it affect them? The last problem I seem to be having is the usual work ethic is not there for this project when it comes to the notecards. I'm not really sure why, I mean notecards are useful to achieve the overall goal of writing this paper. But overall I think this project is going well and I will try to bring my work ethic to these notecards and get them done.
